The Kelvedon Oyster 100

104km permanent cycling event starting from Kelvedon, Essex, with controls at Pebmarsh, Rowhedge, West Mersea, Tollesbury and Heybridge.

The ride mixes country lanes and visits to the seaside. Don’t forget to slurp an oyster as you pass through West Mersea. The calendar version is the January event of ACME’s 100k Winter Brevet Series. The ride starts from Kelvedon which is on the main London to Norwich line but riders may use any other control as their starting point. There are plenty of eating options in Rowhedge, West Mersea and Heybridge. A GPX is available.

Rowhedge is a small, picturesque village located in the Colchester District of Essex. Rowhedge’s history is most strongly tied to shipbuilding and fishing, particularly from the 18th century onward. The River Colne was an important waterway for maritime trade, and Rowhedge developed as a center for boatyards and shipbuilding.
