212km permanent cycling event starting from Dunmow, Essex. Controls at Orchard Tea Gardens, Grantchester, Maglia Rosso Cafe, Hawstead, Manningtree and Churchend, Gt Dunmow., plus 2 information controls.

The same route as recent years, two good café controls, lots of quiet, scenic lanes in Essex, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. Breakfast at the start, and the finish included in the entry fee.

Church End is a small and picturesque area within the town of Great Dunmow, located in the Borough of Uttlesford, Essex. The area takes its name from the proximity to St. Mary’s Church, which is one of the oldest and most important landmarks in Great Dunmow. The presence of the church gives the area a historic, peaceful atmosphere, typical of many rural English communities.

Grantchester is a picturesque village located in Cambridgeshire, nestled along the banks of the River Cam. Its proximity to Cambridge led to its gradual development as a peaceful retreat for academics and intellectuals, many of whom have left their mark on the village.

Hawstead is a small, picturesque village that lies 5 miles southwest of Bury St Edmunds, surrounded by the beautiful rolling countryside of the Suffolk countryside. Hawstead has a long history, dating back to at least the Domesday Book in 1086, where it was recorded as a settlement with agricultural significance. The village’s name is thought to be derived from the Old English words “hoh” (meaning a hill or ridge) and “stede” (meaning a place).

Manningtree is beautifully positioned on the banks of the River Stour, which forms the natural boundary between Essex and Suffolk. Manningtree is also well-known for its proximity to Dedham Vale, an area of outstanding natural beauty that has inspired famous artists, such as John Constable.
