Great Dunmow is a historic market town located in Essex, with a rich history that dates back to the Middle Ages. Great Dunmow is most famously known for the Dunmow Flitch Trials, a quirky and unique tradition that dates back to at least the 15th century. The trials are a contest in which married couples compete to win a flitch of bacon (a side of cured bacon) by swearing an oath that they have lived together in harmony and without dispute for a full year and a day.
