Kingdom of the East Saxons 400

400km cycling event starting from Dunmow, Essex. Controls at Reed, Clare, Harwich, Clacton, Churchend, Dunmow, Billericay, Maldon and Churchend, Dunmow., plus 5 information controls.

1st day of 263km, with food, tlc and an optional sleep stop back at base, then a 146km loop on Sunday, mostly within the boundary of the Saxon Kingdom. From the chalk hills of the NW to the marshy coast.

Includes four trips to coastal estuaries: the Stour, Colne, Blackwater and Crouch, as well as passing along the ‘Essex Sunshine Coast’ from Walton-on-the-Naze to Clacton-on-Sea. Contrasting green welly & combine harvester Essex with the land of the white stiletto & chav-mobile. Info controls keep riders mostly to the prettier lanes, but there are a number of additional good café and pub-stop options. There’s a need for self-sufficiency on some of the night stages with ATM/info controls for proof of passage. Food at the start, meal voucher at the Harwich cafe control [156km], 268km [back at base] and finish included in the entry fee.
