Essex and Suffolk Borders 200

Permanent version of the ‘Essex and Suffolk Borders 200’ with controls in Manningtree, Saffron Walden, Buntingford, Lavenham and Manningtree. The ride goes to Buntingford & back, crossing in & out of Essex, Suffolk, Cambs & Herts. No major climbs and yet there’s nearly 2,000 m of climbing.

The route is based on one of Herman Ramsey’s original rides. It starts from Manningtree, which has good easy public transport access from London, Colchester, Stowmarket, Norwich etc. The first control is Saffron Walden and the westernmost control is in Buntingford. The return leg is via an Manuden, Radwinter, Steeple Bumpstead and Long Melford, with the final control in the historic village of Lavenham.

The route passes through many of the amazing areas, villages and towns of the region, including Dedham Vale AONB, Bures, Finchingfield, Saffron Walden, The Pelhams, Stoke by Clare, Long Melford, Lavenham and Boxford.

This would be a great first 200 km ride for anyone stepping up the distance, or if new to audax, as it’s a relatively simple route without too much climbing.
