A circular ride to Abberton Reservoir on a quiet B road tour of central Essex.
Mainly on quiet Essex B roads and some single track lanes with a visit to Abberton Reservoir. Simple food & drink at the start and finish included in the entry fee.

A bit of Essex R&R starts from the Labour Hall with plenty of free car parking and is very close to Witham Railway Station which has frequent services to/from London and Ipswich/Norwich. A light breakfast bar & drinks will be ready to welcome you at the start and also some refreshments at the end. A visit to the River Blackwater at Heybridge then off to Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre and a laney return to Witham but can you squeeze in another cream tea opportunity at the Tiptree Wilkins Jam Factory cafe?

Heybridge is a small town located in the county of Essex and lies on the northeastern edge of the Blackwater Estuary. One of the key historical features of the town is Heybridge Basin, which has a long association with navigation and the shipping trade. The Blackwater Estuary was once a bustling area for shipbuilding, and Heybridge Basin served as an important part of the trade routes in the region.

Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre is located beside huge expanse of Essex & Suffolk Water’s Abberton Reservoir, one of Europe’s top wetland sites. It lies close to east-coast migration routes and, with its surrounding envelope of pasture and tree plantations, is a welcome sight to tired birds. Up to 40,000 ducks, swans and geese visit each year.

Witham is a historic market town located in Essex. The town has roots going back to Roman Britain, where it is believed that a settlement existed along the Roman road from Colchester to London.
