A Women in Audax Event

A major initiative for Audax UK’s 50th anniversary year in 2026 is a programme of “50:50@50” events. They are promoting these designated events within their normal calendar to try to get at least 50% women entrants, but they are open to everyone regardless of gender. Most of these are shorter distance Brevet Populaires (50-150km) as a good introduction for newcomers and a stepping stone to future longer events.

This event is a 50:50@50 event, please enter and encourage a female friend, clubmate, relative or partner to enter too.

Origin of Route

This route was originally devised by Tom Deakins, a lifelong cyclist from Essex who grew up using the bike as everyday transport before developing a deeper passion for long-distance riding. He has a strong preference for fixed-gear bikes fitted with Caradice bags and long mudguards. Tom started organising events in 2009, was a founding member of Audax Club Mid-Essex and has an extensive catalogue of calendar and permanent events.

Lavenham is most renowned for its stunning collection of medieval timber-framed houses that line the village’s narrow streets. The buildings, many of which date back to the 16th century, have been beautifully preserved and continue to showcase the village’s rich architectural heritage. Snetterton is a small village located in the county of Norfolk. Newmarket is a historic market town located in Suffolk, famously known as the home of horse racing and a significant hub for the thoroughbred horse racing industry. The town’s proximity to London helped it grow as a popular destination for royalty and aristocrats, who came to enjoy the races.
